Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital Launches Community Fundraising Campaign   In March 2012, the Board of Trustees of the Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital Foundation announced the kickoff of the community fundraising campaign to rebuild Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital.   Nearly 200 community leaders attended the kick-off reception at the Bacara Resort & Spa. The event included an announcement that The Wood-Claeyssens Foundation of Santa Barbara has provided a $1 million Challenge Grant, which means that community contributions will be matched dollar for dollar up to a total of $1 million.   Building Well. Being Well. The Campaign for the New Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital has a goal of raising $14 million to fund the rebuild project.   The new, two-story hospital will total 152,000 square feet. Plans include more than doubling the size of the Emergency Department and expanding both the Surgical Services Department and the Center for Wound Management. The new facility will include 52 beds and will improve patient comfort by providing all private rooms.     After four decades of providing quality, highly personalized care to Goleta and surrounding areas, we now have the opportunity to completely rebuild Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital. The new hospital will provide enlarged emergency care and surgical capabilities, an expanded Center for Wound Management, and a more efficient, patient-centered design to ensure medical excellence close to home for generations to come. Designed to complement the patient care programs of Cottage Health System, GVCH will be enhanced by the replacement of the medical office building located on the hospital campus.   All hospitals in California must be rebuilt or renovated to be able to withstand a major earthquake. Although the state is requiring the work, it is providing no funding to help hospitals reach this deadline goal originally set for 2013.   The rebuilding project is unfunded by any local, state or national agency. Funds to pay for the rebuild will come from hospital operations, tax-exempt bonds and community donations.   Community leaders Donald Anderson and William Peeples are campaign co-chairs of the fundraising effort, assisted by Susan Deacon and Thomas Frutchey, serving as co-chairs of a 12-member Campaign Cabinet. A 19-member Honorary Cabinet is adding its support to the effort.     We appreciate the community’s interest and encouragement and invite your participation in Building Well. Being Well.
