Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
Welcome to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). As parents you are the most important people in your baby’s life.
Free valet parking is available at the front entrance to the hospital on Bath Street from 7 AM – 4 PM weekdays only. There is a guest parking lot off of the Castillo entrance to the hospital, as well as 90 minute parking on the surrounding streets.
The hospital has a few cottages that are available for out of town parents. They are available on an “as need” and “as available” basis for a small fee. Please ask your baby’s nurse for more details.
Upon arrival to the unit, please identify yourself on the “air-phone” at the entrance doors of the unit by indicating your relationship to the baby and the baby’s last name. Parents are welcome in the NICU at any time. As babies need a quiet environment to heal and grow, only two people (parents included) are allowed at the bedside at one time. A parent may bring in a guest, one at a time. Grandparents may visit without the parents present, but are not permitted to bring guests in. Children 10 years of age and older may visit with a parent. Please ensure that all visitors are feeling well and have no symptoms of illness.
We have a waiting room at the entrance where other guests and family may wait. Children need an adult present at all times while in the waiting room.
Please do a 3-minute scrub on entering the unit. A yellow gown is needed if you are going to hold your baby.
All NICU employees wear badges. To help us keep your baby safe, please do not give your baby or any information about your baby to anyone without a badge.
Involvement in Care
As your baby’s condition improves and stabilizes, we will help guide you in participating in their care as much as possible and prepare you for your baby’s homecoming.
