In stroke care, time is of the essence. Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital works closely with local emergency medical agencies to coordinate efforts that help to identify stroke patients rapidly and to provide effective early interventions.


Once the patient arrives in our emergency department, a team of specialty trained emergency medicine physicians, nurses and technicians rapidly assess patients and will notify our stroke team of a potential patient.


Members of this team will respond within minutes to the emergency department to provide further expertise in the care and management of the patient.

Re-entry to the community


Consideration for re-entry to the community starts on the day of admission.  Within hours of admissions, a dedicated case manager will be assigned to the patient and will then meet with the patient and family, identifying needs and offering resources where appropriate.
