The only comprehensive facility of its kind between the Bay Area and Camarillo, the center focus on specialized care for problem wounds -- often caused by underlying medical problems such as heart disease and diabetes – that do not heal naturally. The Center for Wound Management opened April 5, 2006 at Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital. Since then, the Center's specially trained staff has assessed a total of 1,613 wounds, (many patients have multiple wounds) and treated a total of 168 patients. As medical director, Dr. Dexter oversees a staff of four nurses and a respiratorytherapist and has specialized training in hyperbaric oxygen therapy. As part of treatment, the center currently operates two chambers which provide appropriate patients with 100 percent oxygen within a pressurized setting. The procedure increases the level of oxygen in the blood stream and promotes healing. Dr. Dexter’s clinical experience includes serving as associate medical director of Diversified Clinical Services in Tustin, CA; principal investigator of Clinical Research Services at Tennessee Christian Medical Center in Madison, TN; and as medical director of the Wound and Hyperbaric Center, also at Tennessee Christian Medical Center. He also practiced physical medicine and rehabilitation in private, medical group and university settings. Dr. Dexter received his bachelor’s of science degree and medical degree from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. He conducted his internship in internal medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center and his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the University of California Irvine. He holds board certifications in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and from the American Board of Preventive Medicine, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine. |
