Condensed Childbirth Series
Course Content

• Breastfeeding Class taught by a breastfeeding consultant
• New Parent Class on the adjustment to the role of parenting

Dad's Bootcamp
Course Content
This course will allow expectant and new dads to connect with fatherhood in a supportive man-to-man format. Participants attend one session in the last trimester of pregnancy and return as “veterans” for the second session (when their baby is 2 to 3 months old) to inspire and inform the next group of new dads.
• Valuable parenting lessons from veteran dads (and babies)
• Understanding more about needs of new moms
• Creative solutions to unique problems facing new dads

Maternity Center Tours
Course Content
• A visit to our newly renovated birthing rooms
• Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital's family-centered approach to birth
• A tour of the Mother-Infant Unit
• Pre-admission, visitor guidelines, parking, and other relevant patient information
This tour is included in the Prepared Childbirth Series. No pre-registration or reservation necessary. Tours last 30 to 45 minutes.
Fee: No charge
Time: 6 pm and 7 pm
Location: Meet in the front lobby of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital (Bath Street Entrance) 5-10 minutes before each tour.

Prepared Childbirth Series
Course Content
This eight-class series held during the third trimester is ideal for first-time parents or anyone wanting a comprehensive overview of events surrounding birth.
Course Content:
• Breathing and relaxation techniques for labor
• The normal process of labor, medical options for birth, and the coaching role for labor companions
• The postpartum period with an emphasis on care of the new mom and baby
• Series includes the following Birth and Parent Education courses:

• Cesarean Childbirth
• Breastfeeding
• New Parent Classes

Siblings Attending Birth
Course Content
• How babies are born and how mom will cope
• Ways to “help” mom give birth *
• Practice session with labor pal in hospital
• A tour of the childbirth center and recreation areas
* Attendance of other children at the actual birth is at the discretion of the physician.

Sibling Preparation
Course Content
The class will describe differences between “baby and me” and allow siblings to express feelings about the new baby. It will also explore ways that big brother or big sister can help the family. The class includes a tour of the Mother-Infant unit.
