Fall Prevention: Sometimes illness
or lack of familiarity with the surroundings can put patients at
risk for falls. These nursing staff suggestions may help:
 |
1. |
When walking, always wear slippers with non-skid
soles. |
| |
2. |
When you need to get up, always call for help if you feel
weak, dizzy, or lightheaded. |
| |
3. |
Use the call switch in the bathroom if you become weak or
need assistance to get back to your bed. |
| |
4. |
Notify nursing staff if a spill occurs on the floor. |
| |
5. |
If you are unable to get up, ask to have objects you will
need within easy reach. |
| |
6. |
Use your call button for help. |
| |
7. |
Never attempt to climb over the side rails of the bed. Call
your nurse for help. |
Fire and Disaster Safety: Drills
are held occasionally by the hospitals in order to protect patients
should a real emergency occur. Various bells and alarms sound during
these procedures. Please remain in your room until the drill is
over. In the event of a real emergency, remain in your room until
the nursing staff gives you instructions.
Patient Security: If you have any safety concerns, please use the nurse call button. All hospital personnel must wear a picture ID badge at all times. If someone without a badge presents him or herself as a hospital employee, please notify us immediately.
Identification: Accurate patient identification is essential day and night so the medical and nursing staff can easily see who you are. Please wear your plastic identification bracelet at all times until you return home. Make sure your nurse or caregiver verifies your identification before giving you any medicine or performing any tests or procedures.
