The Stroke Program
In August 2009, the Santa Barbara Neuroscience Institute at Cottage Health System became the first facility between Los Angeles and San Jose to achieve Primary Stroke Center Certification from The Joint Commission, demonstrating a solid commitment to meeting or exceeding national standards and guidelines for improving stroke outcomes.

The Joint Commission's primary stroke center certification program was developed in collaboration with the American Stroke Association. It is based on the Brain Attack Coalition's "Recommendations for the Establishment of Primary Stroke Centers."
