Community Stroke Education

 

Cottage Health System holds a free community stroke education event quarterly. Our next session will be held in September. Please check back soon for details.

The lecture begins with a brief presentation about stroke, followed by a short Q&A ,and then individualized risk assessments.

 

Performed by a registered nurse, screenings include the warning signs of stroke, and a heart rate and blood pressure check. 

 

Education materials on stroke prevention and other information will be provided in both English and Spanish.

Stroke Facts

    Every 45 seconds, someone in the United States suffers a stroke.
    Stroke is the nation’s # 3 cause of death and a leading cause of serious, long-term disability. (For Santa Barbara County, stroke ranks as the #2 leading cause of death, and #1 cause of disability.)
    About 700,000 Americans will have a stroke this year and approximately 24 percent will die from it.
    80% of strokes are preventable. Education is key to avoiding a stroke.
