SBCH Recieves American Stroke Assn. Quality Achievement Award


Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital has received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines®–Stroke Silver Quality Achievement Award.


The award recognizes Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of stroke care by ensuring that stroke patients receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations.   Learn more about Cottage's clinical

SBCH has developed a comprehensive system for rapid diagnosis and treatment of stroke patients admitted to the emergency department. This includes always being equipped to provide brain imaging scans, having neurologists available to conduct patient evaluations and using clot-busting medications when appropriate. The Stroke Program has also received Advanced Stroke Certification from the Joint Commission.


Get With The Guidelines® is a program that helps ensure consistent application of the most recent American Heart Association/American Stroke Association scientific guidelines for patient treatment. The program includes in-hospital modules for heart failure, stroke and resuscitation as well as a module for outpatient practices.


This award recognizes a 12 month period of 85% or greater compliance with the requirements in the Get With The Guidelines–Stroke program. These include aggressive use of medications like tPA, antithrombotics, anticoagulation therapy, DVT prophylaxis, cholesterol reducing drugs, and smoking cessation.
