2011 in Review

Dear fellow community members,

In this annual report issue of “Cottage” magazine, we look back at the highlights of the past year, share some inspirational stories of patients who have needed our help, learn from some long-term board members what it meant to them to serve their community health system, and say thank you to our many donors whose generous support is so invaluable to the work we do.

The new year has already been full of excitement as we moved patients and staff into the newly constructed Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital pavilions on February 12.

CEO Ron Werft congratulates the Arroyo family on the birth of Augustin Jr., the first baby born in the new SBCH on opening day.

Positive comments on the new facility from our patients, visitors, staff and volunteers have touched on the elements of the award-winning design, the abundance of natural light, the inspiring landscape, and the impressive collection of healing art both inside and outside the buildings. More remains to be done, and we continue to appreciate your patience and understanding as we complete this extensive project.

At the same time, impressive progress is already under way for the new Goleta Valley Cottage Hospital, and finishing touches are being put into place at Santa Ynez Valley Cottage, which in early 2013 will be the first of our hospitals to be completed and up to the State’s new earthquake safety standards.

Meanwhile, standing behind all we do and providing thoughtful guidance in meeting our mission are the elected leaders of our hospitals [pictured on right]. To them, we offer our most sincere gratitude. Their selfless contributions, often invisible to patients and visitors, truly make a difference.

Ron Werft
