In 2004, approximately 1,500 patients initiated a full trauma center response at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital. About 1,200 of those patients were admitted to the hospital. More than 50 of those critically ill patients who were not expected to live survived, thanks to the care of the SBCH trauma team.

Trauma Services are fully integrated with SBCH's Critical Care Services, which include adult, pediatric, and neonatal intensive care units.

SBCH is also a trauma research facility, making significant contributions to the emergency medicine field.
