In our community, every penny of your donation to the Children’s Miracle Network is used to improve medical care for local children. Your support helps us provide service to children based on need, not upon the ability to pay.
The Children’s Miracle Network Celebration began in 1983 as a television special to raise money for children. The first year it operated from a small studio in Provo, Utah. It was broadcast by 30 television stations and benefited 22 hospitals.
In 1987, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital joined forces with Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) and KEYT TV Channel 3. Now Cottage is one of 170 prestigious hospitals affiliated with the Children’s Miracle Network Celebration. The goal of the CMN broadcast is to increase community awareness of the services Cottage Health System provides and the benefits to local children. And while CMN has become the largest television fundraiser of its kind, its pledge to keep 100% of donations in the area where they are raised is still the very core of its philosophy.
Every year this event helps us raise money to improve medical care for local children. Years ago, when Santa Barbara children and babies were critically ill, they had to be sent out of town for special care. This imposed a double hardship on families: the trauma of having an extremely ill child, in addition to separation and long commutes.
Today, thanks to everyone who has contributed to Cottage's annual Children's Miracle Network Telethons, we have the facilities and the pediatric specialists to treat babies and children right here at home. Funds from this year's broadcast will help us completely rebuild Cottage Children's Hospital -- a constellation of special medical services for our youngest and most fragile patients.
As part of the rebuilding of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital to meet state seismic standards, the new Children's Hospital will position our newborn nursery, neonatal intensive care unit, pediatrics unit, pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric oncology program, and air ambulance and trauma center within minutes of one another, saving valuable time when a child is critically ill. The new Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital will incorporate all of the sophisticated technology needed for optimal patient care, combined with the personal, compassionate care that is the trademark of Cottage Health System.
